A Travellerspoint blog

Goodbye, Singapore

I am finally ready to go. All my bags are packed, passport returned by the embassy, and goodbyes said. One year and few months since the preparation started, I am finally going to go to Europe tomorrow.

I believe everyone who is leaving a place he knows so much, for a not-so-short period of time will feel a mixture of feelings. Excited, longing, satisfied, sadness, and perhaps fear. Sometimes there is also this spur of the moment that wills you not to go. You have to fight this feeling and focus on what you have always wanted. It is human nature to hold on to something that you usually take for granted, when it is time to let go.

I have learnt to say my goodbyes, to send them in all the grace and meanings they carried. I said my goodbyes seven years ago, when I closed a chapter of my life in a land not so far from Singapore. This time the goodbyes do not carry as much weight as those said 7 years ago.

Because I will be back. In half a year or so. I need to find myself, to find what I want in life.

So, wish me luck everyone. I promise I'll send you dispatches from the roads.

See you in Eindhoven.
